[R-sig-phylo] Mean of Phenogram Through Time

Hi all,

Perhaps I'm googling the wrong thing or just too tired to figure this out
myself, but is there a way to calculate the mean value (and variance)
across a phenogram through time?

Beyond that, if I have a discrete character mapped on my phenogram, could I
calculate separate means for the different discrete character states?

Thanks,
Will

Happy to take any questions!
